Geology and glaciology centre
Les Haudères
Geomorphology section:
Geomorphology is the study of landforms and their evolution. The main active processes in mountainous environments are particularly visible in the Val d’Hérens. This represents a true natural heritage for the valley.
Did you know that in recent years, climate change has caused an increase in rockfalls and landslides in the valley, especially during heatwaves and snowmelt periods?
Soapstone section:
Did you know that this "soft" stone, which is highly fire-resistant, was traditionally used to make cooking pots and irons?
