Randonnée pédestre

Arolla - Cabane de Bertol

Arolla/Val d’Arolla

Difficult

To reach the Bertol hut (3311m) from Arolla, you take a more or less flat road to the bottom of the Arolla glacier. From there, the path rises to reach Plan de Bertol (2664m) and the Bertol glacier. The last part is on the glacier, so it is strongly advised to bring summer crampons in your bag. To reach the hut, you will also have to climb some ladders which can be impressive for people who are not used to them. The hut is located on the Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route and is an important part of the legendary Patrouille des Glaciers, a ski mountaineering race that links Zermatt to Verbier every two years. The duration of this hike is 4 hours and 20 minutes and the return journey is on the same route.

Nature being a law unto itself, you may not have the necessary capabilities of a proven mountaineer to attempt this adventure on your own; you must then seek help from a mountain specialist before setting off.
Let yourself be carried away by the magical experience of the mountain in the company of a professional mountain guide.
