The Mountain in Transition - Perspectives on Alpine Futures

Fepècle et La Sage

From 24 Sep 2026 to 25 Sep 2026

How can tourism accommodation at altitude be rethought while preserving Alpine landscapes? Faced with climate challenges, real-estate pressure and changing uses, architects, urban planners and tourism professionals come together to imagine new ways of living in and welcoming visitors to the mountains.

This first edition, entitled “A Light Footprint – Welcoming Without Altering”, offers two days of discussions, debates and immersive experiences focusing on territorial restraint, energy autonomy, the enhancement of built heritage and new models of tourist accommodation.

On Thursday afternoon, two round tables will address, firstly, the transformation of the mountains in response to climate change and, secondly, the rehabilitation of existing heritage as an alternative to further urban expansion. The evening will continue with an aperitif, dinner and an overnight stay at the Cabanotel in Ferpècle or at the Minipockethouse Ecolodge in La Sage. On Friday morning, participants will visit the Minipockethouses before enjoying brunch.

The discussions will bring together Olivier Cheseaux, Olaf Hunger, Lucien Barras and Léonard Bender, four professionals from the fields of architecture, urban planning and heritage preservation, who will share their perspectives on the future of Alpine regions.
