The Barn and byre

The foundations often consist of a simple layer of stones, which guarantees the isolation of the wood. A number of barns are partially sunken into the ground and their only façade emerges from this. However, this bedrock could also be made of wood. The beams are assembled very sparsely and allow the air to circulate easily.
 
In the past, for a number of reasons, particularly transportation problems, all the fodder could not be stored in a single barn. For this there were barn-stables out with the village, between the meadows. The cows had to move to a different stable whenever the reserve of each ran out.
